Landscape design services for a new build 750 pupil secondary school with a sports specialism, within a constrained urban site in Central Hackney, East London.
Part of our strategy was to showcase the school’s achievement in sports, provide closer adjacency between indoor and outdoor sports activities and improve access for the local community.
Implemented in two phases, the building provides a generous covered civic space at the heart of the new school to act as the main social gathering area. The hard surfacing extends from this heart to the surrounding external areas.
The external landscape includes a growing area and biodiversity garden, which is an ‘Eco-Schools’ exemplar project, linked to various areas of the curriculum.
A biodiverse roof area uses a range of recycled substrates to demonstrate factors that affect the growth of a range of native species and their associated fauna.
